The lost Art of Love Letters...

So many blogs have been written about this topic but go on anyways.... this is what i have to say :)

I was having my normal coffee time( at a fab and quaint coffee shop mocha and co.) today. ...was browsing on the the latest trends and partly reading on some articles on Red magazine and found an interesting read.  The lost art of love letters... unfortunately forgot the writer's name .

Anyway, was struck by the realization that we have indeed lost  writing love letters! Technology took over, (not always a good thing) now  we have lost the romantic way of expressing our thoughts and feelings! we are in the world of texting, emailing, and other "techie way" of doing things...and how we deliver the words even.  Text message/s like MSULKECRZ ( miss u like crazy )  O4U ( only for you )  MT ME L8R  ( meet me later ) .... no hint of romance isn't it?.... simply awful. At this day and age we have relationships built in the Internet Chat rooms, Social networks and Mobile. Well why would you bother with pen and paper while you can just type and click and send in a matter of seconds ? There's even no need to be conscious and have after thoughts on the words because hey there's the spell check button right there! ... easy, breezy.  Gone were the days of perfumed scented paper, the perfect hand writing and the elaborate words of affection to the one you love.

You can probably tell by now that  I am such a romantic. That is why  I am affected by this  in the first place. I love poetry, i write poems. I have received and sent handwritten letters in my time.. and I am not that old mind you. The feeling that you get from a heartfelt and personal gesture is incomparable to emails and what have you. Knowing that the letter was made with an effort and an amount of time was spent is enough to know how you are much thought of and loved. How romantic it is to have touch the paper of what was once touched. To read it over and over again to your heart's content and keep it in some place special and hidden. Can you hold an  email and text messages and keep it hidden in a box?.... yeah in a folder with the rest of your files... and you need  a printer for that. Just like a typical mail either to save or delete... how unromantic, more of an office task isn't it?.

Now you might say how about receiving love letters from someone you don't even care about. There is this icky feeling of disgust i know, but  still  you read it despite the fact before throwing it in the bin... or maybe not, straight to the shredders. Whatever it is you do the mere fact that somebody in this world have thought special about you, that you are highly appreciated, that you caused somebody's sleepless nights is such a good feeling and sometimes overwhelming , that is  if you are not as hard as a rock. The human thing to do is to at least respond and express sincerely how it you truly feel and be honest. You would be such a devil to play on somebody's emotions and humiliate. Don't be such a_____ ( fill in the blanks for the appropriate term).

Writing love letters goes from the days of long distance love affairs and where romance abound. The amount of time waiting for the lover's response and the excitement of writing one back. Write love letters, to the one you love dearly, to your parents and kids. A gesture that would bring a genuine smile to somebody's  face that no amount of text and email can. Start writing today no matter how simple or short, as long as it is sincere and heartfelt. Keep letters and passed it to your children and the next. Valentines day is fast approaching.. it is a perfect time. Bring back the passion of self- expression and poetry..... it is never too late!. Spread the Love!

Famous love letter by Napoleon Bonaparte

In addition to being a brilliant military mind and feared ruler, Napoleon Bonaparte (1763 - 1821) was a prolific writer of letters. He reportedly wrote as many as 75,000 letters in his lifetime, many of them to his beautiful wife, Josephine, both before and during their marriage. This letter, written just prior to their 1796 wedding, shows surprising tenderness and emotion from the future emperor.

Paris, December 1795

I wake filled with thoughts of you. Your portrait and the intoxicating evening which we spent yesterday have left my senses in turmoil. Sweet, incomparable Josephine, what a strange effect you have on my heart! Are you angry? Do I see you looking sad? Are you worried?... My soul aches with sorrow, and there can be no rest for you lover; but is there still more in store for me when, yielding to the profound feelings which overwhelm me, I draw from your lips, from your heart a love which consumes me with fire? Ah! it was last night that I fully realized how false an image of you your portrait gives!
You are leaving at noon; I shall see you in three hours.
Until then, mio dolce amor, a thousand kisses; but give me none in return, for they set my blood on fire.

SOME LOVES...

" The devil puts a penalty on all the things we enjoy in life. Either we suffer in health or we suffer in soul or we get fat" - Albert Einstein

There is some truth in this quote... that is, if we do things in excess or become obsessed about it. Like the wise man once said.. too much of everything is bad.

Here are the things that i love that makes my life so much better:

THE BEACH - I'm from the beach paradise Philippines and naturally I became a beach bum. There is nothing like chillin' on a beach   on a sunny day with  a cocktail in hand. Bliss! I lovE the beach life! This photo was taken last December in the famous island Boracay,Aklan Philippines.

FOOD - i have this love affair with food! Food is my soul.. it makes me happy. I have this huge appetite and thankfully I don't really gain as much. If you are into food tripping count me in. Feed me and i will be your friend forever hahaha. Seafood is one of my favorite.. especially grilled. This is called seafood boodle feast in the boodle restaurant in Greenbelt Makati Phils. The food is served on a banana leaf with your chosen dip. You can use your clean bare hand or opt for the usual  spoon and fork. With boodle, eating with your hand is the best option.

BOOKS -What can i say? I'm such a bookworm.. one of the things that I can't live without. I buy books that i really really like and i borrow books from the library here too. I take photos on the books that I get from the library as a keepsake and have a journal beside me when i read so i can jot down anything that i find interesting. I read  fiction to non-fiction books.Just to mention a few of my favorite books/authors.. Dan  Brown, I collect all his books... The Art  of War by Sun Tzu, Love in the time of cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne,Eat pray love by Elizabeth Gilbert and Five people you meet in Heaven by Mitchel Albom.Technology like kindle or Ipad is great because you can load books as many as you'd like, but there is nothing like a hard bound book.

MUSIC - My love for music ranges from Rock, Alternative Rock, Pop, Techno and RnB. Music plays a big part, when I'm the happiest or down in the dumps. What  life would be like without theme songs? It reminds of the time you had  love.. your first dance or the time that no one did..your  heartaches and the good old memories. Music is Life. Photo of Eddie Vedder was taken during the time when my hubby kevin and I watched the Pearl Jam concert held in O2 Dublin Ireland last June 2010 ... we were at the mosh pit and sure we had a blast!! Rock On!

MAKE-UP AND BRUSHES - I used to view Michelle Phan and other Make -Up Guru's tutorials  over YouTube and that started my make-up purchases. I don't have a lot though just a few to get by. I love experimenting on make-up especially with the different type of brushes. I got this Fraulein shadow palatte and set of brushes online. I'm quite happy of its good quality and the range of colours.

SHOES - You are not a girl if you don't love shoes!... that is all i can say. :)

WATCHES - I collect them.. it is not all designer labels.. but the more unique the better. I love watches in  different styles and colours. I have a new watch that is not in this photo.. the DKNY ICE, its lovely!. I made the watch holder myself but i would intend to buy  a proper holder soon. I have no excuse to be late because I don't go without it.

BAGS/WALLETS - Yeah, yeah I am a bag lady!... again not all designers OK. I don't really care as long as i love its design. I have shoulder bag, sling bag, back pack you name it. When I am in a shop I'm always drawn to the bag section... "Ohhh Bag".

So that's  a few of my loves.... hope you are lovin' it. ;)

My top guilty pleasures...

Was thinking of what to post to kick start my blog...
lifestyle guilty pleasures! it's about anything or everything that we consider pleasurable but embarrassed to admit sometimes.

May it be habits, indulgences..the soap opera we just couldn't live without. It makes the day right from the gratification we get.

But who are we to deny ourselves? let loose, as guilty pleasures brings colour to life.

  • Karaoke - If you are Asian this is such a common past time, most household has one. I could karaoke all i want in the comforts of my home after a day's work... must admit I'm not a pro, a bit average I must say :) I sing songs from the '80's up to the present billboard hits. I used to shy away from singing in public but proven from my latest vacation that I have the guts when i sang at a karaoke area by the beach. It was a karaoke machine where you drop Php5.00 per song... spent loads, but was so fun! It is such a stress reliever.
  • Reality TV Shows - I'm such a fan of America's Next Top Model, Survivor series, Big Brother Phillippine Edition and  The Real Housewives of Orange County to name a few. I love to watch people's raw emotions when they get to a situation. I record it as to not miss an episode or check the net for uploads.
  • Public Massage machine - May it be at the groceries or at the airport lobby. If I'm beat up or dead tired, this is my quick massage fix and it's cheap! No small talk, it's instant...just drop a coin and you just have to sit and relax! I don't mind people walking by or even stare, but i try to keep a straight face as much as i can.
  • Read and eat - I love books and I love food and I do it together! I stay in  my favorite corner of the room or the sanctuary of my bedroom and catch up on my reading munching biscuits with coffee or juice and junk food. Reading is like watching a movie for me.
  • Eating out - I so love food and it is more pleasurable to be in an inviting environment full of hungry, happy people. I love buffets because I have an excuse to eat again and again without the guilt.. well It's my money's worth right? I love eating alone as much as I love dining with friends and loved ones. I'm on the slim side and most  people I know are surprise on where I get my appetite from and why I don't gain as much... well that I cannot explain, maybe it's in the genes.
  • Neat freak - I'm so organized to the point that I'm obsessed by it. I'm satisfied if everything is at its place. I don't go to bed unless the house is in order.
  • Collecting - I collect just about anything; books, shoes, bags, watches, souvenirs, tickets from previous travels, concert tickets, etc. I don't intend to be a hoarder but i just can't get enough of pretty girlie stuff and memorabilia.
  • Travelling - I live for adventure. I try to explore places and get familiar with other people's food, culture and lifestyle. This is also my opportunity to take photos as it is one of my hobbies.
I will post a detailed list of my favorite things later and where I've been... this is my pleasures for now.. what's yours?

Feel free to leave a comment.
